In the wake of Typhoon Haiyan , New York's Filipinos, numbering around 200-thousand, are relying on their consulate for information and services. Many are eager to get to the Philippines so they can check on loved ones. VOA’s Bernard Shusman reports that the consulate's job in New York has expanded since the typhoon ravaged the country, killing some 5,000 people and uprooting several million.
