European leaders mulling over treaty changes in Brussels
European leaders are gathered in Brussels for a summit aimed to saving the EU currency.
Germany and France are pushing for changes to the EU treaty, saying stricter fiscal rules should be made part of basic EU law.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
"The euro has lost credibility and this has to be reinstated. We have to make clear that we accept more commitment. The 17 member states of the euro have to make this clear that the Commission will get more responsibilities, and the European Court of Justice will get more responsibilities."
However, some EU countries are concerned for more sovereignty loss under a stricter treaty.
The leaders of the 27 EU nations are to sit a number of working sessions on Friday.
China, India resume military dialogue
Military leaders from China and India are set to start their fourth Annual Defense Dialogue in New Delhi on Friday.
The dialogue is touted as the highest-level and most intensive exchange in two years.
Ma Xiaotian, deputy chief of the General Staff of the PLA, is to co-chair the talks with Indian Defense Secretary Shashikant Sharma.
They are expected to touch upon issues including regional security, military exchanges and confidence-building measures on the border between the two nations.
China refutes "land grab" claims in Africa
China is refuting claims that it has been buying up land in Africa.
A Foreign Ministry spokesperson refuted the claims that it has been "grabbing land" in Africa, saying that China has instead been providing 'technical assistance' to help develop agriculture and improve food security there.
The Foreign Ministry adds that while "there is neo-colonialism in Africa" it is "absolutely not from China."
Seven dead in coal mine accident in NE China
Seven people have been killed in a coal mining accident in Jianchang county in Liaoning.
The seven miners were buried when a section of the mine's roof collapsed on Thursday.
An unknown number of other miners who were also working underground when the accident happened have been rescued with no serious injuries.
Putin: the U.S. is behind the anti-government protests
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is accusing the U.S. of stoking this week's anti-government protests.
Putin's comments come in reference to comments made by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton earlier this week that suggested Russia's Duma elections were manipulated.
"She set the tone for some of the activists inside our country, gave them a signal, they heard this signal and started active work with support from U.S. State Department."
Protesters have been taking to the streets in Moscow and St. Petersburg for three consecutive nights, despite a heavy police presence.
Protesters are accusing the election results as fixed.
Iran TV broadcasts image of missing U.S. drone
Iran is publicly displaying an aircraft that it says is the U.S. drone its forced down earlier this week.
TV footage shows Iranian military officials inspecting a cream-colored aircraft which appears intact and undamaged.
Officials say the drone was downed with minimum damage.
In Washington, a Pentagon spokesman says the images of the drone is currently being studied by the military and other agencies but gives no further comment.
However, other U.S. officials have confirmed that the missing U.S. drone has not yet been recovered.
Oil Pipeline in Syria's Homs Province attacked.
A major pipeline carrying oil to a refinery in Syria's restive Homs province has been attacked - this according to state run news agency, Sana.
Sana says it is currently not clear on who was behind the attack, which caused no casualties but triggered a plume of black smoke.
The agency say the attack happened at Tal al-Shor, west of the troubled city of Homs.
The Local Co-ordination Committees, which organise protests against President Bashar al-Assad's regime, are accusing his government of deliberately destroying the pipeline, which serves a region opposed to his rule.
The province has been besieged by security forces and loyalist militias for more than two months, with the UN estimating more than 4,000 people have been killed since mid-March amod the unrest.
Pakistan president out of intensive care in Dubai
Pakistani president Asif Ali Zardari has been moved out of intensive care in Dubai.
Zardari was hospitalized in Dubai earlier this week after suffering a minor heart attack.
A presidential spokesperson denied yesterdayt that Zardari will step down.
The presidential palace says the 56-year-old is currently stable and awaiting further tests.
Picasso's masterpiece to be auctioned at China art fair
A masterpiece of Pablo Picasso is set to be auctioned at an international art fair in Guangzhou.
the piece, entitled "Mother and Child," is one of Picasso's lithographs, and will be auctioned along with his manuscript notes during the event.
The bidding begins at a cool 8.2 million yuan - some 1.3 million U.S. dollars.
