Apple Clears WeChat for iPhone 16 as Talks Persist Over App Fees

Apple Inc. has green-lit a version of Tencent Holdings’ WeChat app for the upcoming iPhone 16, buying more time for ongoing negotiations about changes the US company has demanded to China’s most-used social media platform.

Apple has approved a WeChat update for the iOS ecosystem that Tencent submitted this week, people familiar with the matter said. The latest version adds new features within the Instagram-like WeChat Moments and live-streaming, the people said, asking not to be identified discussing internal negotiations. The approval is likely to quash speculation in China that a dispute between the US firm and China’s largest company over app store fees could snowball and even bar WeChat from the latest iPhones.
