Hello, I'm John Russell. Imagine you are traveling. You are in a store, a hotel, or in a cab. You need to make a payment of some kind.
你好,我是约翰·拉塞尔。想象一下你正在旅行。你在一家商店、一家酒店或一辆出租车上。你需要进行某种支付。
How might you ask about acceptable methods of payment? That question is the subject of today's lesson.
你会如何询问可接受的付款方式?这个问题是今天课程的主题。
To start, there are 2 major nouns you should be familiar with: cash and credit card.
首先,有两个主要的名词你应该熟悉:现金和信用卡。
Cash means money, especially money, which is immediately available. We generally consider cash to be a noncount noun. In other words, we do not make it plural.
cash指的是钱,尤其是指可以立即使用的钱。我们通常认为cash是一个不可数名词。换句话说,我们不会把它变成复数形式。
Listen and repeat after me: cash, credit card, on the other hand, is what we call a compound noun.
听并跟我重复:cash,credit card,另一方面,是我们所说的复合名词。
It involves mixing 2 nouns, credit and card to form the compound noun credit card.
它涉及将两个名词,credit 以及 card,混合在一起,形成复合名词credit card。
Importantly, credit card can be made plural credit cards listen and repeat after me and be sure to exaggerate the ending in the plural form: credit card-singular, credit cards-plural. How might we use these 2 nouns in questions?
重要的是,credit card可以变成复数形式的credit cards。听我说,然后跟我重复,一定要在复数形式的结尾处夸张一点:credit card-单数,credit cards-复数。我们如何在问题中使用这两个名词呢?
You might ask this: do you take cash? Do you take credit cards?
你可能会问这个:你们收现金吗?你们收信用卡吗?
Note that I used the singular form cash, but I used the plural form credit cards. You might also ask:Do you accept cash? Do you accept credit cards?
请注意,我使用了单数形式的“cash”,但我使用了复数形式的“credit cards”。你可能还会问:你们接受现金吗?你们接受信用卡吗?
Or we might combine our two nouns into a question like do you prefer cash or credit cards?
或者我们可以将两个名词组合成一个问题,比如现金还是信用卡?
That's all for today. Keep up the good work!
今天就到这里。继续保持!
