This is Everyday Grammar. I'm Lucija.
欢迎收看《每日语法》栏目,我是露西佳。
And I'm Kaveh. In conversation, Americans often use Imprecise Nouns.
我是卡维。美国人经常在对话中使用不精确的名词。
Imprecise Nouns such as thing, something and stuff are nouns that do not represent an exact person or object.
不精确的名词比如“thing”,“something”与“stuff”,是指不代表确切的人或物的名词。
Sometimes these Imprecise Nouns are used in phrases.
有时这些不精确的名词会用于短语中。
Are we talking about coordination tags and stuff like that?
我们是在讨论同位关键词之类的东西吗?
Yes, we are. Rather than saying a lot of nouns,
是的。说话者不会说很多名词,
speakers will use one noun and a coordination tag to show that there are other possible nouns they could have said.
而是用一个名词与一个同位关键词来表明他们本可以说其他的名词。
Is this the part where I give an example?
这是我举例子的部分吗?
Like instead of saying "For my birthday I got flowers, books, jewelry, makeup, and concert tickets."
比如,我不说“For my birthday I got flowers, books, jewelry, makeup, and concert tickets.”(我在生日时收到了鲜花、书籍、珠宝、化妆品和音乐会门票”。)
I could say "For my birthday I got flowers, books, and things like that."
而是说“For my birthday I got flowers, books, and things like that.”(我过生日时收到了鲜花、书等等)
Yes! There are three main coordination tags: something, things and stuff.
是的!同位关键词主要有三个:something,things与stuff。
You can also add "like that" to each coordination tag and it would be:
你可以在每个同位关键词后面加“like that”,它将变成:
"or something like that", "and things like that" and "and stuff like that."
“or something like that”,“and things like that”,与“and stuff like that”。
Something is used when the earlier noun is not exactly what the speaker meant.
“Something”是在先前的名词与说话者本意不完全一致时使用的。
Things is used to avoid listing a long list of exact nouns.
“Things”用来避免列出一长串确切的名词。
Like the sentence earlier of all the things Lucija got for her birthday.
比如之前的句子中露西佳列出的所有生日礼物。
And stuff is used similarly to things, but more often it refers to objects.
“stuff”与“things”的用法类似,但经常用于指物。
And that's Everyday Grammar.
