Officials in Northwest China's Shaanxi province are warning local people to avoid walking through fields and wooded areas following a series of deadly hornet attacks.
The thumb-sized hornets, known as Asian Giant Hornets, have already caused the deaths of at least 28 people and serious injury to hundreds more in southern part of Shaanxi province. Most of the attacks have taken place in remote rural areas.
The Asian Giant Hornet is the world's largest hornet. It can grow up to more than 5 centimeters in length, and delivers a venom containing a potent neurotoxin. Doctors warn that anyone who has been stung more than 30 times should seek immediate emergency treatment.
