Philippine tourism officials say they stand to lose 4.5 million US dollars a month in canceled bookings and charter flights from Taiwan.
Most of the cancelations have hit the popular beach resort of Boracay in the central Philippines, where tourists from Taiwan are the second largest group of visitors, after South Koreans. Last year, more than 90,000 tourists from Taiwan visited the island.
The row over the shooting of a Taiwan fisherman by the Philippine coast guard earlier this month has led Taiwan authorities to freeze the hiring of Filipino workers and discourage travel.
