- I'm sure some of you like arithmetic very much.
- Perhaps it's your favourite subject.
- But I'm certain some of you do not like it at all.
- Perhaps you do sums because you have to do them!
- Can you add DCCLXVII and CCLVI?
- A Roman child could not do this sum.
- He had to use a counting board.
- But it is a simple sum really.
- Here it is Roman numbers: DCCLXVII + CCLVI Answer MXXIII.
- And here it is in Arabic numbers: 767 + 256 answer 1023.Easy,isn ' t it?
- Who says arithmetic is diffcult?
- We do not have to use Roman numbers and we must thank the Arabs for this.
- They gave the world simple numbers.
- So do not complain about arithmetic!
