8.panic n．恐慌，惊惶 V．（使）恐慌，（使）惊惶adj.恐慌的，惊慌的
【源】来自Pan，一般音译作“潘”，是希腊神话中的山林、畜牧之神。它人身羊足，头上有角，居住在山林中，常躲在隐蔽处，突然跳出来吓得人魂不附体；它的怪叫声使人产生极大的恐惧感。panic就是指Pan出现时给人们带来的恐惧感。
【例】Most deaths in earthquakes have been due to faulty building construction or poor building sites. A third and very serious factor is panic.
