A mother incredibly recovered from the terminal cancer doctors said would kill her says she "feels like a walking miracle." Karen Land was on the brink of death when she was given just months to live in December - but has defied all odds and is now cancer free.

The mother-of-five was so unwell that she could barely climb a flight of stairs, breathe or talk without struggling. But the community came together to raise money for lifesaving immunotherapy, and combined with Karen's fighting spirit, their efforts paid off. Scans taken on May 16 showed the disease has disappeared and there is no evidence of any cancer anywhere.

She told Lincolnshire Live: "It's the best news I could have hoped for. I am now officially in remission." I feel a bit like a walking miracle considering I was supposed to be dead by now.

"My consultant has said that I am one of a few people that just respond really well to treatment." She now has three weeks of radiotherapy to endure and will need a scan every three months, and there could still be a chance she will relapse in the next 12 months.

Her dream job was in her grasp after she completed her firefighter training course until the terrible diagnosis came through. She thought she would never have the chance to put her new found skills to the test in real life as a result.

But that could now all change. "The second best news I had was when I asked the doctor if I could return to work," she said. "He said it's not a unrealistic expectation." I've just got the radiotherapy to complete and a bit of work on my fitness to do.

"I already have an appointment to see occupational health next week so I am hoping in the next two months I can get back." Karen has even stopped donations coming into her Just Giving page.

"I've decided to end my Just Giving page for the time being and if the time comes in the future where I need treatment again or immunotherapy I will look at starting it up again," she said.
