Children of Trouble Times tells about an intellectual, the young poet Xin Baihua, who fled Shanghai from the northeast with his friend Liang Zhi-fu. However, whereas Liang soon joined the resistance against the Japanese invasion ,Xin chose to pursue a relationship with a glamorous woman, Ms. Shi who just divorced. After hearing that Liang Zhifu had been killed, Xin Baihua changed his mind and determined to rush to join the fighting in the Anti-Japanese War.
该电影由许幸之执导，剧本作者为夏衍。 电影讲述的是青年诗人辛白华与朋友梁质夫从东北流亡到了上海， 而当梁质夫很快加入到抗击日本侵略的战争时，辛白华却选择追求刚刚离婚、富有魅力的施夫人。当辛白华听到好友梁质夫牺牲的消息后，心理发生了很大的变化，毅然决定快速参加抗战。
Children of Trouble Times was almost the greatest Anti-Japanese War film of the age. The theme song of the film March of the Volunteer was fashionable all over the country then, and was later selected as the national anthem of the People's Republic of China in 1949. This decision was formally written into the Constitution of the People's Republic of China in March 2004.
《风云儿女》几乎成为最伟大的抗战电影。其插曲《义勇军进行曲》风靡全国，1949年被选定为中华人民共和国国歌，此决定并于 2004年3月正式写入中华人民共和国宪法。
