6月4日下午，江苏常州市金坛区河滨小学（elementary school）一名五年级（fifth-grader）女生缪可馨在上完两节作文课后，突然从教室跑出，翻下栏杆坠楼身亡（jumped to her death）。事发前，缪可馨的作文被老师评价要“传递正能量”（deliver positive energy）。
6月18日，江苏省常州市金坛区教育局发布通报（circular），称近日，媒体报道和网友反映，金坛区河滨小学教师袁某某存在曾经收受微信红包、校外补课（run private classes），体罚学生（physically abused students）等行为，区教育局（district education bureau）决定对该教师展开调查并将依据调查结果依法依规处理。
缪可馨的父母称，涉事老师私下办过有偿作文补习班（ran private writing classes for profit），而且长期辱骂（verbally abuse）包括缪可馨在内的学生，因为缪可馨没有参加她的补习班。
河滨区政府上周表示，调查组在调查过程中，共走访班级学生45名、学校老师3名，未发现当天课堂中存在辱骂、殴打学生情况（verbally or physically abused the child in class）。公安部门通过现场勘查、查看监控录像（surveillance videos）和走访调查等工作，排除他杀（ruled out the possibility of murder）。
但涉事教师承认去年10月曾掌掴缪可馨（slapped Miao's face），因为缪可馨当时成绩下滑（didn't perform well academically），而且作业漏做（missed some homework）。
