12 killed in attack in Kabul embassy district

Gunmen have attacked a guesthouse in the embassy district in central Kabul, leaving at least 12 dead and 9 injured.
The 11-hour-siege near the Spanish embassy ended early Saturday morning. Two Spanish nationals, one Afghan national, and five police officers were among those killed. Four attackers were also killed.
Police said they rescued 12 guests trapped in the targeted building. Taliban militants have claimed responsibility for the attack. A Taliban spokesman told local media that the attack was part of the group's offensive called Azam.
