1. look into：考察；调查；研究
e.g. The college principal promised to look into the matter.
学院院长答应研究这个问题。
e.g. We'll look into the matter first before coming to a decision.
我们先研究一下,然后再作决定。
2. at the death of：在......的死亡之时
e.g. We all grieved at the death of such a great and good man.
对这样一位伟大的善良的人的离去,我们都深感悲伤。
The present Queen succeeded to the throne at the death of her father.

3. ask sb. to sth. ：邀请某人做某事
e.g. He's asked me to dinner several times already.

4. go to pieces：身体或精神垮掉，崩溃
e.g. You'll soon go to pieces if you keep on working like that.

e.g. When the Australian matter was reached, Mace became emotionally disturbed, then seemed suddenly to go to pieces.

5. down in the mouth：垂头丧气，没精打采，精神颓废
Paul looks down in the mouth because she failed in the attempt.
