哥伦比亚航天飞机失事事件 Columbia Space Shuttle
Angelika K. One instance which illustrates that “no progress is possible without sacrifice" is the unfortunate fate of the Columbia space shuttle. Although the shuttle was equipped with the finest technology and the most experienced crew available, nobody could prevent the malfunction which destroyed the shuttle and its crew. This disaster resulted in great financial damage to NASA. Although this experience was unpleasant, NASA technicians conducted tests to find out what had gone wrong with Columbia so that they could improve future missions. This research resulted in the recent successful launch of the Arizona space shuttle. Thus, although the Columbia accident was a tragedy, it also helped NASA make progress.
