Hello,Tom.Are you all right? I haven't seen you for a while.
Yes,I'm fine.I was in the States all last week visiting a friend of mine.
I thought I'd told you about it.
No,I don't think so.SO whereabouts did you go?
Most of the time I was in Boston where my friend lives,
but I went up to New York for a couple of days.
Right.So what was it like?
It was great.New York was amazing.
It's just such a lively place,
there's a real mixture of people,and the food's great.
Yes? What about Boston? What was that like?
Oh,it's nice.It's quite an interesting place.
I din't do much there-mainly just spent time with my friend-but it was good.
I met a lot of his friends and they were really nice and friendly.
Sounds great.I'm quite jealous.
Have you ever been to the States?
Yes,I went there about three ago,but I went to the West Coast.

Oh right,whereabouts exactly?
Well,we stayed for a week in San Francisco
and then a week just travelling around California.
It's such a big state;there are lots of things to do.
Yes,I've never been to that part of America,but I'd really love to go.
What's San Francisco like? It's supposed to be brilliant.
It's great.It's really beautiful and it's very relaxed.
Not like LA,which is just mad.
We had a really good time there.
The only disappointing thing
was that it rained almost the whole time we were there.
Really?I thought it was supposed to be realy good weather there.
Yes,I think it is normally.
We were just really unlucky.

It's OK.I suppose.
It's quite poor round there and it cna be a bit dangerous sometimes,
if you walk home on your own late at night,
but it's quite a busy area and ther's lots of shops
and things like that round there,so it's good for shopping.
Right.And what's the rent like?
It's OK,actually.It's quite a cheap area to live in.I only pay about 60 a week.
Wow,that's good.That's a lot less than I pay!
It's delicious!It's one of the best places to eat in town.
Every time I've been there it's been great.
You should try it.I'm sure you'd like it.

I've got someone coming over from Germany on business
and I want dto take her somewhere nice.

What was he like in it?
Don't ask!It's the worst I've ever seen him act.He was awful.
Great!He's really funny.He's always making me laugh.
He's very smart as well-he works with computers,
so he's really good with numbers and machines,and things like that.
He sounds nice.Do you see him very often?
Yes,quite often.He lives quite near where I work,
so we have lunch together once or twice a month.
OK,I suppose.It wasn't the best I've ever been to.
It went on a bit too long,I think.
I've heard that piece played much better elsewhere.
Oh,really?It doesn't sound very good.What was the venue like?
I've heard the building is incredible.
Oh yes.The place was amazing.It's really beautiful in there.
It's just a shame the music wasn't as good.
Brilliant!I'm really enjoying it.
It's very practical,so we spend a lot of time making things,
and looking at things and talking about them.
It's really nice to be so active for a change.
And what're the other students in the class like?
They're all really nice-apart from this one strange English girl
who never really talks to anyone,but most of them are lovely.
What about the teacher? What's she like?
It's he,actually.He's great.Really interesting,really good.
It's nice.It's quite large,so there's plenty of space for the three of us.
The kitchen's very modern,so that's good and the bedrooms are OK too.
The bathroom is a bit samll,but it's OK.
I've lived in much worse places before!
Oh,it sounds lovely.What're your neighbours like?
I'm not sure,actually.I've only seen them on the stairs.
I haven't realy talked to them yet.They looked OK,though.
