1. 读研 pursue a master's degree

“考研”的说法我们在第227期总结过，同学们可以去复习一下。那么除了用participate，take part in，take这些词来表示“参考研究生考试”，我们还可以换一下表达，例如用pursue a master's degree来表明“攻读硕士学位”，或者说go to graduate school，“读研究生”，graduate school也可以说postgraduate school，这两个短语看似不同，但其实是一样的意思。

2. 毕业论文 thesis

写论文我们经常遇到，但英文中有很多种“论文”。最常见的是paper，是最广义的论文，可以是发表在期刊上的论文，也可以是学期末要写的论文（term paper）；另一个很常见的是essay，它通常指的就是一篇小作文，也有“散文”的意思；毕业论文则称为thesis或dissertation，在美国，本科和硕士论文用thesis，博士论文用dissertation，英国则相反，本科和硕士论文叫做dissertation，博士论文用thesis。

I spent all weekend writing a paper.

我花了整个周末写论文。

My essay is practically finished now.

我的论文现在差不多写完了。

Before starting to write my thesis, I spent weeks drafting an outline and conducting preliminary research.

4. 人面兽心 wolf in sheep's clothing

网友评论这位黑老大是“人面兽心”，英语可以用wolf in sheep's clothing来表示，这个短语源自一个寓言，意为“穿着羊皮的狼”，形容一个外表平凡的人内心阴险。还可以说一个人two-faced，指“表里不一的，虚伪的”，或者Janus-faced，Janus是古罗马神话中的一个神，有两张脸，一个看向过去，一个看向未来，因此这个词形容一个人有两个面孔。另外一种说法是double-dealing，也是“两面派”的意思，可以形容某人在行动或言语上欺骗别人，不可靠。
