on tenterhooks 焦虑不安
【讲解】
此语源于织布。从前在英国,布织好了之后,在一种叫tenter的框架上用很多钩子把它绑紧,以显得平整。如果人在这种框架上,再把钩子拉紧,即使不死也很受罪,所以,这条成语比喻“内心焦虑不安”。它出现于1533年。
