32. Promise

1) I promise you that I'll never be late again.

Dialogue 1

W: Tom, you promised to cut the lung. You won't forget, will you?

M: No, I assure you.

W: And you'll repair the television, won't you?

M: Ok.

W: Do you promise?

M: Of course.

W: And Tom, you will help Johnny with his homework, won't you?

M: I'll see. I will if I can but I won't promise.

W: But you'll promise not to be late for dinner tonight, won't

you?

M: Yes. But only if you ask me nicely.

W: Tom, darling. You'll try not to be late for dinner tonight,

won't you? Please!

M: Ok. I'll keep my promise.

Dialogue 2

W: Mark, you are not tellimg me the truth. Now why?

M: Promise you are not going to be angry?

W: Yes, all right. So why? Go on then. Say it. Oh, really, Mark.

I promise I'm not going to be angry. Now why were you late?

M: I forgot.

W: You forgot? You...

M: Ah, ah, you promised, and remember?

M: They promised us a sea view.

W: Well, you can just see the sea. Between the factory chimneys.

M: Isn't it awful? I can't bear to look at it. I don't think I

can stand this place for two weeks.

W: Well, it can't be helped. We'll just have to put up with it.

W: Did you promise me to get the bread?

M: Well, I remember walking pass the baker shop.

W: But you forgot to get the bread.

M: I'm afraid so. I don't remember you telling me about it.

W: Well, I certainly did.

M: What would you let me do now?

W: You are free. You can go now.

M: Really? You are so kind.

W: I'll do with the cake.

M: No. That's not enough. I've got some cereal.

Dialogue 5

M: My word, you do look ill!

W: I'm quite out of thoughts recently.

M: You seem to have something on mind. Promise me, go to see the

doctor right now.

W: I'm worrying about my exam.

M: A piece of cake. You'll be successful.

Yesterday the sunshine, and it got quite hot. I decided to put on my light green summer skirt. But I got a shock. Really, it's a big shock! Promise me, I could not put it on exactlly. It was too small. It is possible that they got smaller during the winter, but I do not think so. I'm afraid I got bigger. So I'm going on a diet. I am going to lose some weight. Otherwise, I am an idiot.
