Tracy: Li, your shoes are gorgeous. Are they new? 莉，你的鞋子美极了，是新的吗？

Li: Yes. I had to buy them. 这双鞋挺贵的，不过可以搭配很多不同种类的衣服。

Tracy: I can see why you bought them. Those kitten heels are perfect for work and partying. 我知道你为什么要买它了，因为这种中跟鞋很适合工作和参加舞会的时候穿。

Li: Why do people call them kitten heels? 为什么人们称之为中跟女鞋？

Tracy: Honestly, I don't know. They just do. Perhaps it's because they are as cute as a kitten. 老实说，我不知道。它们还行。也许是因为它们像小猫一样可爱。

Li: 和小猫一样可爱。那么女鞋中的 kitten heel 和 stiletto heel 比起来都有哪些区别呢？

Tracy: That's a good question. They are both types of high-heeled shoe. A stiletto is a tall, slim-heeled shoe. 这是一个好问题。那种鞋都是又细又高的样子。

Li: A stiletto 是鞋跟又高又细的高跟鞋。

Tracy: They are usually considered to be quite sexy. 它们通常被认为非常性感。

Li: Ok, and a kitten heel? 好吧，那中跟的呢？

Tracy: A kitten heel is a shoe with slightly shorter heel. The heels are usually no more than a couple of inches tall.

Li: 就是说，中跟鞋的鞋跟要低一些，大概有两英寸左右。

Tracy: Exactly.确实是。

Tracy: Nowadays, women wear all different types of shoes. They might wear kitten heels or stilettos or another type of shoe to work. 现在女人穿不同的鞋。她们可能穿中跟的或者又高又细的或者其他样子的鞋去上班。

Li: What do you prefer to wear: kitten heels or stilettos? 你更喜欢那种鞋，是中跟的还是又高又细的？

Tracy: That's a tough one. I'm quite short so I often wear stilettos, although I think kitten heels are more comfortable. 不好说。我个子不是很高所以我经常穿又高又细的鞋，尽管我觉得中跟的更舒服些。

Examples

I normally wear stilettos to work. I think they look smarter with a suit than kitten heels. 我通常穿又高又细的鞋去上班。我觉得它们搭配西装看上去要比中跟鞋好看。

Li: That's quite interesting. 比起 kitten heels, 她们好像更喜欢穿stilettos？这又是为什么呢？

Tracy: I don't know, but there is a trend just now for very tall high heels. 我不知道，但是鞋跟高的鞋是现在流行趋势。
