Few are social contacts and far between,
Coaches keep off the narrow lane.
Closed all day is my wicker-gate,
Wordly thoughts the bare room discourage.
With the farmers I exchange calls,

We meet not for gossip or idle talk,
On the growth of mulberry and hemp we dwell.
As hemp and mulberry grow,
My fields increase in size.
I dread the visit of sleet and frost
That reduce my fields to waste.
