1.detection n.察觉:发现(the act or process of detecting;discovery)

词根记忆:来自detect(矿察觉:发现),de(去除)+tect(遮盖)--去掉遮盖一发现

例:Virtually everything astronomers know about objects outside the solar system is based on the detection of photons.

2.deter v.威慑(to overawe);阻止(to discourage, or prevent from acting)

词根记忆:de(起强调作用)+ter( =terr吓唬)--威慑

例:The legislature enacts severe laws to deter motorists from picking fruit off the trees.

3.deteriorate v.(使)恶化(to impair, to degenerate)
