世界屋脊
Welcome to "the roof of the world."

This beautiful place is almost five kilometers above sea level, between the Himalayan and the Kunlun mountains.

The view is amazing, but it isn't easy to live on the roof of the world.

In the winter, it's difficult to find water.

However, even here, there is life.

This is the home of the yak. Yaks look like very big, furry cows and they are perfectly adapted to live here.

Their short legs are strong enough to walk on the rocks.

They eat dry plants and can get enough water from the snow and ice.

During the cold winter months, when temperatures are sometimes -40°Celsius, the yaks stay warm because of their thick fur.

Their thick fur also stops the sun from burning them.
