1.avenge v．为…报仇
【记】词根记忆：a（表加强）+veng（惩罚，引申为报仇）+e--为…报仇
【例】avenge oneself on： Edith avenged herself on her father's killers.
伊迪丝向杀父之人报了仇。
【用】avenge后若直接接名字，表示“为…报仇”；若接on，如avenge oneself on则表示“向…报仇”，注意区分，

2.unveil vt．除去…的面纱（盖布）等，揭开；为…揭幕

【例】Benz unveiled the new car model of this year for the first time.

3.promising adj.有希望的，有前途的，有出息的
【记】联想记忆：promis(e)(承诺)+ing--有希望的，有前途的
【例】The promising athlete was sent to the games for a great achievement．

4.dazzle v．耀眼；使惊奇，使倾倒 n．闪耀，耀眼
【例】The dazzle of headlights lit the road ahead.
汽车前灯耀眼的光照亮了前方的路。

5.crafty adj.狡猾的，狡诈的
【记】来自craft(n.手腕，技巧)
【例】Wood always looks at others with a crafty expression on his face.
伍德看着别人的时候，脸上总是带着狡诈的表情。
【辨】crafty，sly，cunning三个词都有“狡猾的”之意。crafty指诡计多端的；sly指善于欺骗的、不诚实的，如：a sly fox; cunning强调聪明机智，通常不顾道德标准，如：Cunning men pass for wise.

6.exhilarate vt.使高兴，使兴奋

【例】We are exhilarated by the cool air.

7.enact vt．制定（法律）
【记】联想记忆：en(使)+act（行动）--使（法律）行动--制定（法律）
【例】The Supreme Court says India must enact legislation making it compulsory to register all marriages.
最高法院表示印度必须立法强制婚姻登记。

8.hollow adj.空（心）的，中空的；凹陷的；（声音）空洞的：虚伪的
【例】It's no use saying so many hollow words.
说这么多空话毫无意义。

9.clasp v．扣住，扣紧，钩住；拥抱，抱紧；紧握 n．扣子，钩子；拥抱；紧握
【例】The clasp of my brooch is broken.
我胸针的钩子断了。
Father clasped me to his chest.
父亲把我紧紧抱在怀里。
