2.scale n．尺度，刻度；基准，等级；比例，比率；大小，规模；音阶，音列；[pl．]天平，磅秤 v．称体重；爬，攀 n.鳞，鳞片
【例】The doctors are high on the social scale in western countries.
在西方国家，医生的社会地位很高。
The scientist scaled new heights in the field of physics.
这位科学家到达了物理学领域的新高峰。
【用】注意scale作“天平，磅秤”讲时通常用复数形式：

3.hijack vt．拦路抢劫(车、人等)，劫持（飞机等）,向…敲诈勒索
【记】联想记忆：hi(你好)+jack(杰克)--你好，杰克，打劫--劫持

4.preserve v．保存；保护，维护；维持
【记】词根记忆：pre(预先)+serv(保持)+e--提前保持--保存

【派】preservation（n．保存，贮藏；保护；保持）
【辨】preserve, conserve, reserve三个词都有“保存”的意思。preserve强调保护某物不受损坏，维持原状态；conserve侧重于保存起来，以作节约之用；reserve多指保留，如：reserve my rights。
