Federal officials have sent a team of investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board to the site of an Amtrak derailment in north-central Montana. The accident killed three people and left seven hospitalized. Amtrak's Empire Builder was en route from Chicago to Seattle when it derailed Saturday near the town of Joplin.
Mourners paid their respects Sunday to Gabby Petito, whose death on across-country trip has now sparked a manhunt for her boyfriend. Petito's parents reported her missing Sept. 11 while she and boyfriend Brian Laundrie visited parks out West. Her body was discovered last Sunday in rural Wyoming.
A tight race as Germany's center-left Social Democrats take on outgoing German Chancellor Angela Merkel's center-right bloc Sunday, with Merkel's bloc heading toward its worst-ever results in the country's parliamentary elections. Top officials from both parties hope to lead Germany's next government and have their candidates succeed Merkel, who has been in power since 2005.
Switzerland has voted to allow same-sex couples to marry, bringing the alpine nation in line with many others in western Europe. Official results showed the measure in a referendum on Sunday passed with 64.1% of votes.
