North Korea could launch the Musudan missile in the next 24 to 72 hours, officials tell me.
This would be the ninth test of this type of missile this year, to go along with two nuclear tests in defiance of U.N. sanctions. For the first time in 28 years, a U.S. Navy ballistic missile submarine visited Guam on Monday.
In June, North Korea successfully launched a Musudan nearly 250 miles into the Sea of Japan. Other Musudan launches have failed.
U.S. officials say once operational, a Musudan can strike U.S. forces in Japan and Guam. Last week, the Director of National Intelligence said preventing North Korea from obtaining a nuclear weapon was a “lost cause.”
