China's Ma Lin Wins Men's Singles Table Tennis Olympic Gold
China has completed a clean sweep of medals in men's singles, marking the first time that's been accomplished by any nation. It came one day after a Chinese women's trio accomplished the feat.
World No. 2 Ma Lin won gold, while silver went to World No. 1 Wang Hao and bronze to World No. 4 Wang Liqin. Ma Lin beat Wang Hao in five games, becoming the third Olympic men's single champion in China.
The 28-year-old burst into tears after winning the game.
"It is because of such deep pains that I can receive totally happiness finally."
In the previous match, three-time world champion Wang Liqin won the bronze medal against Swedish veteran Jorgen Persson.
Coach Liu Guoliang said he's satisfied with the performance of the players.
"I've told our players that all you have to do is to make every match a festival of all Chinese. We did it."
