Food, glorious food. Oh, yummy. It's vital for nourishing and fueling our bodies.

And the right food keeps us learning and playing all day.

But a lot of the food we buy doesn't end up in our tummies, instead, it's thrown away.

And here in the UK, we have a big problem. We waste around 9.5 million tons of food each year.

One charity is hoping to change that, FoodCycle, uses leftover fruit and vegetables to create delicious after-school meals for children and their families.

So I've come to see what they're serving up.

"Why is so much food getting wasted?"

"It can be all sorts of things, you know, maybe they've grown too much crop, or they've over-ordered at the supermarket, or it can also be for households that don't know what to do with it.

It creates greenhouse gas emissions, which we should all be trying to reduce, so it's a win-win by using that food up."

So far, FoodCycle has made more than 3,000 two-course meals, meaning 7.5 tons of extra food has been saved, that's around the same weight as an elephant.

After I was put to work, I caught up with some of the children who've been enjoying these tasty dinners.

FoodCycle is going to be cooking at more schools and hope to make 6,000 meals by the end of the year, stopping food from going in the bin and putting a smile on people's faces.
