After a bit more walking, they found themselves at one side of a long rope bridge.
又走了一会儿，他们来到了一座长长的吊桥的桥头。
Bear stopped.
熊停住脚步。
"It looks rickety," said Bear.
“桥看起来摇摇晃晃的。”熊说。
"It might be a little rickety," said Rabbit.
“可能是有点摇晃。”兔子说。
"It looks old," said Bear.
“桥看起来很老了。”熊说。
"It might be pretty old," said Rabbit.
“可能相当老了。”兔子说。
"It looks like the board might break if you were heavy enough," said Bear.
“看起来，如果你够重的话，桥上的木板可能会被压断。”熊说。
"Mmhm," agreed Rabbit.
“嗯。”兔子表示同意。
Rabbit looked at her friend and said "Bear, are you scared?"
兔子看着朋友说：“大熊，你是害怕吗？”
And Bear took a deep breath and said,
熊深吸了一口气说：
"Yes! Yes, Rabbit, I am scared!
“是的！是的，兔子，我很害怕！
I was scared of the river, and I was scared of the forest, and I was scared of the mountain,
我害怕小溪，我害怕树林，我害怕山，
but I am the most scared about this long, old, rickety bridge!"
但是我最害怕这座又长又旧、摇摇晃晃的桥！”
And with that, Bear turned around and headed home.
说完，熊转身回家去了。
He marched back to the helicopter that flew him back to the airfield,
他大步走向直升飞机，飞机把他送回机场，
then took the train to the forest, where he got on a bus that took him to the river, so he could cross where it was narrow...
然后他乘火车去树林，在树林里坐上公共汽车，汽车把他带到小溪边，这样他就可以在小溪变窄的地方跨过去，
and then trudge all the way back to his house, where he crawled into bed.
然后一路跋涉回到家里，并爬上床。
Rabbit went to the middle of the bridge and thought: See, this bridge isn't dangerous. It's a good bridge.
兔子走到桥中间，心想：看，这桥并不危险，是一座好桥。
And to prove it, she started to jump up and down.
为了证明这一点，她开始跳上跳下。
And then she jumped harder.
然后她跳得更用力了。
And then she jumped harder than she had ever jumped in her life.
然后她跳得比她一生中任何时候都更用力。
And then...the board she was jumping on cracked in half!
然后……她脚下的木板裂成了两半！
And Rabbit fell right through the hole in the bridge.
兔子直接从洞里掉了下去。
Lucky for Rabbit, she had very strong ears.
幸运的是，兔子的耳朵非常有力。
But she knew she wouldn't be able to hold on forever.
但是她知道自己没力气一直挂在这里。
And because of this, Rabbit, for the first time in her life, was scared.
正因为如此，兔子有生以来第一次感到害怕。
Now, Bear and Rabbit hadn't noticed but throughout their journey, they had been followed by a small bird.
熊和兔子没有注意到，在他们的整个旅程中，有一只小鸟一直跟着他们。
Bird realized she had to get help, so she flew as fast as she could all the way to Bear's house.
小鸟意识到她必须寻求帮助，于是她以最快的速度一路飞到了熊的家。
Bird flew in Bear's window and started chirping as loud as she could, but Bear didn't wake up, because even bears who are easily scared are very heavy sleepers.
小鸟飞进了熊家的窗户，开始尽可能大声地叽叽喳喳叫着，但是熊没有醒来，因为即使是容易受惊的熊，也会睡得很沉。
Bird was about to give up when she saw the bell on the doorknob.
小鸟正打算放弃，这时她看到了门把手上的铃铛。
Bird put her head inside it and shook it as hard as she could.
小鸟把头伸进去，然后尽可能用力地摇晃铃铛。
Bear jumped out of bed to hear Bird yell, "Rabbit has fallen through the bridge and needs your help!"
熊从床上跳起来，听到小鸟喊道：“兔子从桥上掉下去了，她需要你的帮助！”
And in that moment, Bear felt something he had never felt before -- courage.
就在那一刻，熊感受到了一种他从未有过的感觉——勇气。
He was so worried about his friend that instead of staying home where it was safe, he ran out the door faster than any bear had ever run before.
他非常担心朋友，以至于他没有待在安全的家里，而是以比任何熊都快的速度跑出了家门。
When Bear reached the stream, he ran right through it!
当熊到达小溪时，他直接趟过了小溪！
(It only came up to his ankles.)
（溪水只到他的脚踝。）
When he came to the forest, he ran right through it!
当他来到树林时，他直接穿过树林跑了过去！
(It was only three trees.)
（树林里只有三棵树。
And when he came to the mountain, he didn't even think about taking a train and a helicopter, he just climbed right up it!
当他来到山脚下时，他甚至没有想过要坐火车或直升飞机，而是直接就开始爬山了！
(It wasn't very high.)
（山并不是很高。）
Meanwhile, Rabbit was now hanging on with only one ear.
与此同时，兔子现在只用一只耳朵勉强挂着。
She could feel it slipping, too, and just as she lost her grip...
她能感觉到这只耳朵也在慢慢滑落，就在她失去力气的时候……
Bear grabbed her by the ear and lifted her to safety.
熊抓住她的耳朵，把她提了起来，让她脱离了危险。
"Bear, were you scared?" Asked Rabbit.
“熊，你害怕了吗？”兔子问道。
And Bear said, with pride and honesty, "Rabbit, I was scared."
熊带着骄傲和诚实说道：“兔子，我害怕了。”
"I was scared, too," said Rabbit.
“我也害怕了。”兔子说。
And Bear smiled and said, "Sometimes it's OK to be scared."
熊笑了笑，说：“有时候害怕也没关系。”
That night when Bear brushed his teeth, he didn't hide from his reflection.
那天晚上，熊在刷牙时，没有躲避镜子里的自己。
He looked right at it.
他直视着镜子。
And do you know what he saw?
你知道他看到了什么吗？
A very brave bear.
一只非常勇敢的熊。
(With no food in his teeth!)
（牙缝里也没有卡住食物！）
I wrote this book because I love bears, I love rabbits,
我写这本书是因为我喜欢熊，我喜欢兔子，
and even as a grown-up I sometimes feel scared, and I think that's okay.
而且就算是一个成年人，我有时候也会感到害怕，而且我认为害怕也没关系。
So I wanted to write a book about it and I hope you enjoyed it.
所以我想写一本关于害怕的书，希望你会喜欢这个故事。
