Puffins are very bright and colourful, so much so they're sometimes called "the parrots of the sea".

These bright birds are native to rocky coasts and islands around the UK and Europe.

However, they're at risk of extinction, which means if we're not careful, we could lose them forever.

These rangers work in the Farne Islands, off the coast of Northumberland, in the northeast of England.

They've made it their mission to protect the area's puffin population, and I've been counting them every day to see how they're doing. And there's good news!

"It's gone up by 15%, which means the population is stable. I think all the rangers are super happy, you're sort of like proud cuz you've looked after them and done all the work."

Puffins only lay one egg a year, which make them very precious. But they're very good at protecting their burrows where they lay them.

And the rangers think the weather may also have something to do with the puffins' success this year.

"There's been less storms, the water churned up from storms they can't see the fish, so it meant they were bringing back more fish, which is successful, so the Island is ideal for them this year."
