Paris Olympics 2024: How much does it cost to host the Games? Is it worth the billion-dollar price tag?

The 2024 Olympics is estimated to cost Paris a whopping $9.7 billion, reported to be lesser than the costs of previous host cities. However, the advantages of hosting such a sporting extravaganza are far from clear. Some say the Games are not as economically beneficial.

The modern Olympic Games are notorious for saddling host cities with burdensome cost overruns into the billions. Organizers for the Paris 2024 Olympics were aware of this and planned to put on one of the most cost-effective Olympics in recent memory. They still went over budget.

Constructing the Olympic Village, which could accommodate 14,250 athletes and officials, was a massive undertaking. The project cost is estimated at approximately $1.5 billion. The village is designed as a sustainable development, integrating eco-friendly practices and materials to benefit the local community long after the games conclude.
