"Oh, let's climb up there and see its nest!" implored Heidi, but Peter, expressing decided disapproval in his voice, answered:
“我想爬到老鹰住的地方去看看。”海蒂提出。彼特用力大叫，表示反对。
"Oh dear, Oh dear, not even goats could climb up there! Grandfather has told me not to let you fall down the rocks, so we can't go!"
“我的天啊，山羊都上不去。再说，爷爷不是说了别从岩石上掉下去的吗。”
Peter now began to call loudly and to whistle, and soon all the goats were assembled on the green field.
说完，彼特突然用力吹口哨并大声喊叫起来。山羊们聚集在绿色的山坡上。
Heidi ran into their midst, for she loved to see them leaping and playing about.
海蒂跳起来，跑到羊群中去。她喜欢看小动物们跑来跑去，一起玩耍。
Peter in the meantime was preparing dinner for Heidi and himself, by putting her large pieces on one side and his own small ones on the other.
这时彼特开始为海蒂和自己准备午饭。他把大的一份放到海蒂一边，小的一份放到自己一边。
Then he milked Barli and put the full bowl in the middle.
然后，他拿出碗，从“天鹅”那儿挤出新鲜的羊奶。
When he was ready, he called to the little girl. But it took some time before she obeyed his call.
做完这些，彼特想把海蒂叫过来，可是，这比叫山羊还费劲。
"Stop jumping, now," said Peter, "and sit down, your dinner is ready."
“别跳来跳去了，”彼特说。“来，坐下吃吧，午饭就在这儿。”
"Is this milk for me?" she inquired.
海蒂坐下，问：“这奶是我的吗？”
"Yes it is, those large pieces also belong to you.
“是啊！”彼特回答说，“这边两个大的也是你的。
When you are through with the milk, I'll get you some more. After that I'll get mine."
喝完这些，我再给你挤一碗。然后我再喝。”
"What milk do you get?" Heidi inquired. "I get it from my own goat, that speckled one over there. But go ahead and eat!"
“你挤哪只羊的奶喝？”海蒂问。“从我那只呗，那只带斑纹的。来，吃吧。”
Peter commanded again. Heidi obeyed, and when the bowl was empty, he filled it again.
彼特又催她。于是海蒂先把奶喝光了。她把空碗往旁边一放，彼特就站起身，给她端来了第二碗。
Breaking off a piece of bread for herself, she gave Peter the rest, which was still bigger than his own portion had been.
海蒂撕下一片面包，剩下的给彼特。剩下的部分比彼特自己的面包还要大。
She handed him also the whole slice of cheese, saying: "You can eat that, I have had enough!"
海蒂把一大块奶酪也递给他，说：“这些给你，我的够多了。”
Peter was speechless with surprise, for it would have been impossible for him ever to give up any of his share.
彼特吃惊得说不出话，把自己的食物给别人，这在彼得来看简直是不可能的事。
Not taking Heidi in earnest, he hesitated till she put the things on his knees.
所以他不敢相信海蒂是真心说的，有些犹豫。于是海蒂干脆把东西往他膝盖上一放，
Then he saw she really meant it, and he seized his prize.
彼特这才相信她是真的想给他。他拿起海蒂送他的东西，
Nodding his thanks to her, he ate the most luxurious meal he had ever had in all his life.
带着感激之情重重地点了点头，开始吃他出生以来第一顿像样的午饭。
Heidi was watching the goats in the meantime, and asked Peter for their names.
这时就由海蒂看守着羊群。“这些羊都叫什么名字，彼特？”海蒂问道。
The boy could tell them all to her, for their names were about the only thing he had to carry in his head.
要说羊的名字，彼特可了如指掌。彼特脑子需要记住的东西本来就不多，所以每只羊叫什么记得牢牢的。
She soon knew them, too, for she had listened attentively.
海蒂专心致志地听着。不一会儿，她就能认出每一只羊叫什么名字了。
