Next, there are often, there are almost always questions about your work.

接下来,大家经常会被问到工作。

What do you do?

你是做什么的?

Now when they ask what do you do?

考官问你你是做什么的?

What does it mean?

TA什么意思?

It means what kind of jobs do you have, what's your occupation, okay?

意思是你做的是什么工作,你的职业是什么,知道了吗?

Now maybe you are not actually working right now,

但你可能还没有工作,

maybe you're a student, so then you could say that too.

可能你还只是个学生,那你也是可以实事求是地说的。

But let's look at some possibilities.

现在我们就来看几种可能的回答。

So a weak answer would be 'I am engineer'.

比较不好的回答是“I am engineer”(我是工程师)。

It's weak from so many points of view.

这个答案之所以不好有几个原因。

First because it says 'I am'.

首先,它说的是“I am”.

And again, in conversational English, we would probably say 'I'm'.

但我们前面已经提到过了,在英语会话中,我们一般说“I'm”。

Second, it's missing the article 'an', right?

第二,句中缺了冠词“an”,对吧?

So a correct answer here would be, 'I'm an engineer', alright?

所以,正确的答案应该是‘I'm an engineer’(我是一名工程师),好吗?

Got it?

大家听清楚了哈?

Next, Here, 'I am student'.

接下来,这个回答,“I am student”(我是学生)。

Again, same issues.

犯了和上面同样的错误。

It should be, 'I'm a student', okay?

正确的说法应该是“I'm a student”,好吗?

Or let's say what happens if you don't have a job?

现在,我们假设你并没有工作。

You're not a student and you're not working.

你不是学生,也没有在工作。

You could, first of all, you decide what you share, okay?

那你可以,首先,对考官说什么决定权在你,好吧?

No one is following you home to see whether you told the truth or not.

没有人会跟你回家,验证你说的是不是真话。

So you decide what to say.

所以,要说什么你可以自己决定。

Decide in advance what you're going to say for this question, which is almost always asked,

提前想好自己要怎么回答这个问题,因为这个问题几乎每个考生都会被问到,

so you could say something like, 'I not working', but that's incorrect in terms of grammar.

那你可以说,比如,“I not working”,但这么说又有语法问题。

So it would be, need to be, 'I'm not working currently', okay?

所以,正确的说法应该是“I'm not working currently”(我当前还在待业),学到了吗?

Or 'I'm between jobs'.

或者“I'm between jobs”(新工作还没找着)。

That's a very nice way to say that you don't have a job right now, but you're going to get a job, okay?

这么表述是非常好的,说明你现在没有工作,但你正准备找一份,好吧。

So, you decide what you want to say.

所以,说什么你自己做主。

But whatever you want to say, make sure that you're saying it in this manner.

但不管你说什么,请一定用右边这种方式回答。

So let's see how it sounds now.

现在我们来听听效果。

If someone were speaking in this way throughout his exam, 'where do you live'?

如果考生整个考试过程中都这样回答问题,“where do you live”(你住哪里)?

'I live in a house'.

“I live in a house”(我住在一套房子里)。

Or 'where do you live?'

或者“你住哪里?”

'I live in a three-bedroom apartment.'

“I live in a three-bedroom apartment”(我住在一套三居室的房子里)。

'The advantages of living in an apartment are…'

“住公寓的好处是……”。

That...Or 'The advantages of living in my apartment are that it's very convenient, it's affordable, and it's spacious', okay?

嗯……或者“the advantages of living in my apartment are that it's very convenient, it's affordable, and it's spacious”(住公寓的好处是方便,便宜,还宽敞),学会了吗?

Now, because you know in advance that they are going to probably ask you a question about your home.

因为你事先已经知道考官可能会问你有关住处的问题了。

It's good for you to prepare some vocabulary to describe your home or your apartment or your family.

提前准备一些描述你的家、你的住处或你的家人的词汇是很有帮助的。

Don't learn the whole sentence by heart, right?

不用把整个句子都背下来。

Just pick some words, three good strong vocabulary words, two or three.

只要挑几个词,挑两三个关键的,点睛的词

And try to weave them into your answer, okay?

把它们融入到你的答案里就可以了,大家记住了吗?

That will help to raise your score.

这也是一个提分技巧。

Because you're using higher-level vocabulary as well, okay?

因为你用的是高级词汇。

So the person says, the, the advantages, the disadvantages, okay?

总而言之,你要说,the,是the advantages,the disadvantages,分清楚了啊。

'I enjoy living in an apartment because of several reasons.'

要说,“I enjoy living in an apartment because of several reasons”(我之所以喜欢住公寓有这么几个原因)。

'My brother is an economist.'

要说“My brother is an economist”(我哥哥是经济学家)。

'He works in a bank.'

“要说“He works in a bank”(他在一家银行工作)。

'I'm an engineer', or 'I'm not working currently', 'I'm between jobs', okay?

要说“I'm an engineer”,或者“I'm not working currently”,还可以说“I'm between jobs”,学到了吗?

So you see that this, this side, these answers sounded so much more fluent, so much more relaxed, so informal,

所以,大家看见没,右边的这些答案听起来就流利得多,轻松得多,随和得多,

and of course correct in terms of grammar, pronunciation, expressions, and fluency, alright?

当然,语法、发音、表达方式和流利程度也都是没有问题的,好吗?

Now, let's look at another very common area, hobbies.

现在,我们来看另一个常考的话题,爱好。

Okay, now let's look at some simple sentences that you might use on the IELTS when asked about your hobbies.

现在我们来看几个简单的句子,雅思考试问到爱好的时候大家说不定能派上用场。

For example, 'I like', sorry, 'I like watching movies', okay.

比如,“I like”,抱歉,比如“I like watching movies”。

That's what the student wanted to say.

考生可以这么回答。

But even with that simple sentence,

但即使是这么简单的一句话,

let's look at some things that might be said which would actually be completely wrong

即便你想说的是“I like watching movies”这么简单的一句话,

when you are trying to just say 'I like watching movies'.

也有很多可能出错的地方。

The person could say instead of like, they might not say the word fully and clearly,

考生可能想说的是“like”,但他们可能说的不是很清晰,不是很完整,

if you don't enunciate it clearly, it sounds like 'I lie', 'I lie watching movies'.

如果说得不清楚,听上去就变成了“I lie”(我躺着),变成了“I lie watching movies”(我躺着看电影)。

No. Not 'I lie watching movies'. 'I like watching movies'.

不可以。不能说“I lie watching movies”,要说“I like watching movies”。

Instead of 'I like', a mistake would be to say 'I likes', right?

另一种错误的说法是“I likes”,对吧?

That's just bad grammar.

一个是语法问题。

This one is incorrect pronunciation.

一个是发音问题。

Here, sometimes students don't realize that there's a difference between present simple and Present continuous.

有的同学可能不太清楚一般现在时和现在进行时的区别。

And when you're asked in general, you need to use present simple.

被问到一般情况时,要用的就是一般现在时。

2

So, it would be wrong to say 'I am liking watching movies',

所以,‘I am liking watching movies’就是不对的,

because that's present continuous and also because 'like' is actually something called a stative verb and you cannot use it in this way.

因为这样就变成了现在进行时,而“like”是所谓的“状态动词”,是不能这么用的。

You can't use it in a continuous form.

不能用进行时。

So that's wrong.

所以这是错误的。

'I liking' is wrong.

“I liking”也是错误的。

So these are some of the ways that this simple sentence might have been completely messed up, okay?

这些都是这个简单的句子可能被搞砸成的样子,大家看好了。

So let's look at the correct one.

接下来我们来看正确的说法。

Next, another example.

我们再举一个例子。

The student wanted to say 'I really like to watch movies'.

这个学生想说‘I really like to watch movies’(我真的很喜欢看电影)。

Or 'I really like watching movies', okay?

或者“I really like watching movies”。

They wanted to be more enthusiastic so they said really.

他们想说得更恳切一些,所以用了“really”这个词。

This would be the correct form of that sentence.

这么说是对的,是没问题的。

But let me share with you some variations that I've heard when I'm coaching students for this.

但是我想跟大家分享几个我在指导学生备考雅思的时候听到过的版本。

And these are incorrect.

而这些都是不正确的。

So, for example, to say 'I like really watching movies', that's wrong,

一种是“I like really watching movies”,这就是不对的。

because there really is in the wrong place, the grammar is wrong.

因为“really”一词的位置用得不对,出现了语法错误。

'I very like watching movies' is wrong, because we can't use very in that way.

还有一种是“I very like watching movies”,这也是不对的,因为“very”没有这种用法。

And 'I very much like watching movies', this is a popular mistake, I'm sorry, I hear this all the time.

还有一种是“I very much like watching movies”,不好意思,这是大家比较常犯的一个错误,我经常听到大家这么说。

But, it's incorrect to place very much in that position.

但是,把“very much”放在那个位置是不对的。

If you want to use very much, you need to say 'I like watching movies very much', okay?

如果你想用“very much”, 那你应该说“I like watching movies very much”,大家学会了吗?

Why?

为什么?

Because in English, English is a SVO language, right?

因为在英语里,英语是主谓宾结构的语言,对吧?

Subject, verb, object.

先是主语、后是动词、再是宾语。

'I like watching Movies'.

所以我们要说“I like watching Movies”。

So we can't put other words 'like', 'very much', 'every day', 'every week', any other details in the middle of it, okay?

所以不能将“like”啊,“very much”啊,“every day”啊,“every week”啊这类表示细节的词语夹在句子中间。

Those words have to go at the end, alright.

这些词都必须放在句尾,大家记住了吗?

Another possibility, the student wanted to say 'I enjoy reading'.

还有一种可能,考生可能想说“I enjoy reading”。

Simple. Right? Simple sentence.

很简单,对吧。很简单的一个句子。

How might it be messed up by saying something like 'I enjoy to read'.

但如果说成“I enjoy to read”就不对了。

Again, 'enjoy' is a verb where you need to have the gerund after that and not the infinitive.

前面我们已经说过了,“enjoy”这个动词后面要接动名词,不能接不定式。

Do you see how even simple sentences that you might be saying right now when you're practicing might or might not be right.

看见没?这些都是很简单的句子,也有很多出错的可能。

And these are some of the things to watch out for,

大家在说的时候就要多留意这些地方,

which is why I put down for you lots of the errors that I have heard students make and which I've helped them to correct.

所以我才要给大家举这么多我自己的学生犯下的错误的例子,他们我已经帮他们纠正过来了。

And I'm so happy to be able to help you with that before you go for your exam, okay?

我也很高兴能够有机会在大家备考的时候帮到大家。

So, where do you go from here?

那接下来呢?

This was like a practice test for you through some of the examples, alright?

我今天给大家讲的只是几个例子,大家就当一次模拟训练,好吗?

There are other topics they can ask you about and so on.

考官也可能问到你其他一些问题。

And what you should do is to practice them as much as possible.

你要做的就是尽可能地多练习。

If you can get a good teacher to practice with who knows the ELTS,

如果你能找到一个懂雅思的好老师陪你练习就更好了,

who understands what the needs are for the IELTS exam, not a general English teacher,

但你需要的是一个懂雅思的考试要求的老师而不是随便一个英语老师,

it's very different when you're preparing for an exam than when you're just improving your English in general, okay?

准备雅思考试和准备普通的英语考试是非常不一样的,大家明白了吗?

Very different kind of goals.

它们的目的是很不一样的。

So as much as possible, look for the right teacher

所以,大家要尽可能找对老师,

and I'm also going to give you links to a few of my other videos,

我也会给大家一些我的其他视频的链接,

which are specifically for improving your IELTS score or your TOEFL score or other exam related scores.

都是专门用来提高大家的雅思成绩、托福成绩或其他与考试相关的分数的视频。

And have a look and if that addresses some kind of an issue that you have,

大家记得去看一看,如果真的帮你解决了某个问题,

then by all means check all of that, and correct all of that,

那请你想办法坚持看完所有的资料,纠正掉所有的问题,

and empower yourself before you go for your exam, okay?

在上考场之前尽可能提高自己的能力,好吗?

In addition, please do a quiz on this just to make sure that you've really got it.

另外,建议大家也做一做这堂课的小测验,确保你真的掌握了今天的要点。

You can do that at our website www.engvid.com.

登陆我们的网站www.engvid.com就可以做啦。

There you'll also find more than 1,200 lessons that we have on English in general.

而且很多都是关于雅思考试或托福考试的。

Now the other thing you can do is Subscribe.

还有就是,大家记得订阅我们的频道。
