欢迎收看《每日语法》栏目,我是露西佳。
And I'm Kaveh. Lucija, I think we should try to solve a mystery today.
我是卡维。露西佳,我觉得我们今天应该解决一个谜题。
A mystery? What kind? I like mysteries.
谜题?什么样的谜题?我喜欢谜题。
A grammatical mystery. It's about a word That appears and disappears.
一个语法谜题。是关于That出现和消失的。
Are you talking about the word "that"?
你要讨论单词“that”吗?
Right. I think we should study it.
没错。我觉得我们应该学习它。
Or I think That we should study it.
或者我认为我们应该研究它。
The word That has many uses in English.
That这个词在英语中有很多用法。
Today, we are talking about That when it introduces a second clause in a sentence.
今天我们讨论的是That在句子中引入第二个从句。
A clause is a group of words that has a subject and a predicate.
从句是一组有主语和谓语的词。
Sometimes a clause depends on other clauses in a sentence.
有时一个从句在句子中取决于其他从句。
When this is the case, we say that the clause is "dependent".
这种情况发生时,我们说这种从句是从属从句。
Sometimes That introduces a dependent clause.
有时That引导从属从句。
So in the sentence, "I think That learning English is fun".
所以在句子“I think That learning English is fun”中,
That introduces a clause "learning English is fun".
That引导从句“learning English is fun”。
It is in these types of clauses that English speakers often leave out the word That.
在这种类型的从句中,说英语的人往往省略That这个词。
One reason that they drop the word That from these sentences
他们在句子中省略That一词的一个原因
is because the word That doesn't add much information.
是因为That没有添加很多信息。
There is not really a rule about when to leave out the word That from a That-clause.
什么时候省略That从句的That并没有真正的规则。
It is more of a stylistic choice.
这更像是一种文体选择。
However, speakers often leave out That if the verb in the main clause is Say or Think.
然而,如果主句中的动词是“Say”或“Think”,说话者往往省略That。
They will often leave out the word That if the subject of the That-clause is the same as the main clause.
如果That从句中的主语与主句主语相同时,他们通常省略That。
And that's Everyday Grammar.
