This is Everyday Grammar. I'm Kaveh.
欢迎收看《每日语法》栏目。我是卡维。
And I'm Lucija. Kaveh, I got a text from a friend, but I'm not sure if it's correct.
我是露西佳。卡维,我收到一个朋友的短信,但不确定它对不对。
Well, let me hear what it is.
好吧,让我听听。
Ok, well, at one point he wrote, I could of gone to New York last weekend.
那好,他曾写道,“I could of gone to New York last weekend”。
But I don't think that sounds right.
但我认为这听起来不对。
You're correct. Of is a preposition.
你说得对。Of是介词。
The sentence is missing a verb, in this case Have.
这个句子缺一个动词Have。
It should be, I could have gone to New York last weekend.
它应该是“I could have gone to New York last weekend”(我本应该上周去纽约)。
The confusion comes from the abbreviated form of Could Have, that's Could've,
这种困惑来自于Could Have的缩写形式Could've,
which sounds a lot like Could of.
它听起来很像Could of。
I got it. And since Could is a helping verb, another verb must always follow it, not a preposition.
我明白了。因为Could是一个助动词,后面必须有一个动词,而不是介词。
I should write to him and let him know.
我应该写信让他知道。
Are there any other common mistakes that native speakers make?
以英语为母语的人还有其他的常见错误吗?
Well, there's the example of Every day versus Everyday.
有个Every day和Everyday的例子。
Everyday together as one word is an adjective and means "common".
Everyday合起来作一个词时是形容词,意思是普通的。
Like Everyday Grammar.
比如,Everyday Grammar(每日语法)。
But Every day as two words is an adverb phrase,
但Every day作两个词时是副词短语,
and describes when or how often something happens.
描述事情发生的时间和频率。
Every day I go to school.
我每天去学校。
An easy way to remember the difference between Everyday and Every day
一个记住Everyday和Every day区别的简单方法是
is that the first is an adjective and comes before a noun,
前者是形容词,放在名词前,
and the second is an adverb phrase and must modify a verb.
后者是副词短语,必须修饰动词。
And that's Everyday not Every Day Grammar.
