This is Everyday Grammar. I'm Lucija.
欢迎收看《每日语法》栏目,我是露西佳。
And I'm Kaveh. And today, we are going to talk about the active and passive voice.
我是卡维,今天我们将谈一谈主动语态和被动语态。
Most sentences in English follow the SUBJECT + VERB +OBJECT pattern, known as the active voice.
英语中大部分句子都是主语+谓语+宾语的结构,
Now, listen to this example. Is it in the active or passive voice?
听下面的例句,判断一下是主动语态还是被动语态。
Mistakes were made. Fortunately, we know the mistakes were made. And those mistakes will be fixed.
犯了错误,很庆幸我们知道有人犯了错误,且这些错误都可以弥补。
Wait! For sure that isn't the active voice. I mean there is no subject there. Who made the mistake?
等等,那当然是被动语态,我是说句子中没有主语表明谁犯了错误。
That was the passive voice. Let's hear that again in the active voice.
那是被动语态,让我们再听听这句话用主动语态表达。
Bob made a mistake. Fortunately, we know that Bob made a mistake. And bob will fix it now.
鲍勃犯了一个错误,很庆幸我们知道是鲍勃犯了错,而且鲍勃现在在弥补。
That sounds much better. Now the example of "Bob made a mistake." clearly shows the subject + verb + object pattern of the active voice.
这样听起来好多了,这个“鲍勃犯了一个错误”的例句清晰地表明了主动语态主语+谓语+宾语的结构。
But why would anyone want to use the passive voice?
但怎么会有人想用被动语态呢?
Well, the passive voice is useful when you don't know who did something.
这个嘛,在你不知道某事的施动者时,被动语态就派上用场了,
And there are some situations you might want to avoid identifying the person who did something.
而且有些情况下,你并不想指名某事的施动者。
When the subject receives the action of the verb that is the passive voice.
被动语态是指主语接受到谓语动词的动作,
But the passive voice usually sounds weak and indirect.
但被动语态通常语气较弱且不直接,
You should avoid it unless you have a reason for not naming the actor.
除非你有一个很好的理由不指名施动者,否则最好避免使用被动语态。
Thanks Kaveh. I'm sure that tip will be appreciated by everyone.
