I had a fantastic childhood in Kent - it was really good
I started off, my first ever car I had I paid £5 for! It was an Austin A40
I used it to belt round the fields
You progressed, what became your cars, your sports cars?
I've had all sorts. I started off just 'mechanicing' myself
then cars on the roads - went from a Mini to a Hillman Imp, to a Ford Capri and things like that
One of my favourite cars, I wish I still had now was a Datsun 240Z - it was very early technology - with a turbo charger which was a bit wild! it was a fun car
I went from a Mini and progressed up to an MG
a two-seater MG, top down, it was fabulous for driving around the Highlands of Scotland
Oh, I can imagine it. I remember as a very young kid going as a passenger in an MG.
I thought it was the best car in the world
We have a large number of race circuits in the UK
Most circuits have their own racing school associated with that circuit
The Motorsports Association felt that drivers to go racing should take some form of test and evaluation
and a bit of training as well before they went out onto the race circuit for the first time
When I first got my race licence back in 1985 all you needed to do was apply for the licence
you got it and you could go racing
I started off racing, reasonably successful, but as with all racing drivers money was the problem to go racing
Sadly I did not have rich parents!!
